I enjoy making monoprints for many reasons, but mostly because the process itself engages my imagination in an entirely different way than my paintings do. I consider the shape of the plate and often enjoy making interlocking curves or long narrow rectangles which will play off against each other on the same piece of paper. I also enjoy using a variety of textures; found objects, constructed pieces, spontaneous gestures, and accidents. |
This medium -- along with my Mixed Media collages -- engages my love of abstraction -- although there are often "realistic" elements present. The interaction of shapes, colores and textures are what matter to achieve my goal: a work with strong emotional grace that communicates importantly to the viewer. |
